Rainbows - Abbe Lane Goes Disco! - Seems Abbe's kids were wondering
when their entertainment legend mommy was going to make another record
and she obliged them in 1979 with this five song disco EP. There is
one original, You Make It Hard To Love You and four fabulous disco covers
including swirling disco versions of the fag classics Over The Rainbow
and Ain't No Mountain High Enough (do you think there was a target audience?).
Our favorite (aside from Abbe's awe-inspiring hair-do on the cover)
is the Knock On Wood-esque rendition of Chi Coltrane's Thunder and Lightning.
This disc provides an enthralling, non-stop 'high handbag'*
experience. Condition of vinyl before transfer was VG++. Beautifully
audio cleaned. $15.00 includes shipping USPS in continental USA. |
Village
People - Can't Stop The Music - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
- Like we said in the "Where Disco Dared" liner notes, "If
you didn't live through disco then you don't know what it was like."
Well, to get a better idea of exactly what it was like, just put on
this FABULOUS! soundtrack album from the 1980 film. It features the
boys' earlier hit YMCA and five additional Village People songs including
the sensational title track. One of our faves, I Love You To Death and
three other Village People songs were not available until now. Also
included on the album are two Ritchie Family songs that were largish
club hits at the time. And there are two terrific David London pop anthems
as well, of which the ultra-catchy Samantha should have been a top 10
hit! And about the music...well, what can we say. It's classic Jacques
Morali which bounces back and forth between the hippest of underground
disco and the corniest pop hokum ever produced which gives it a unique
magnetic quality that never fails to draw the listener in. When you
hear material like this being sung so earnestly by such 'macho men'
it widens the eyes and drops the jaw to the floor while at the same
time titillating the ears with the sparkle and allure that made disco
the mega-sensation it was. Condition of vinyl before transfer was VG++/Near
Mint. Beautifully audio cleaned. $15.00 includes shipping USPS in continental
USA. |

Bob
Guillaume - I Who Have Nothing/The Streets Are Filled With Dancing
- We're guessing that Bob was the hipper, more Disco friendly moniker
of the then star of TV's "SOAP" Robert Guillaume. Whatever.
What we have here is Bob's foray into Disco - with a vengeance! It is
FANTASTIC! This is a transfer of Bob's 1978 12" single, the year
before he spun-off into "Benson" and legendary TV superstardom.
The plug song is the drama-queen classic I Who Have Nothing done in
classic Disco style featuring Bob's thrillingly diva-like vocal performance.
We're guessing that Sylvester heard this and not to be out-diva'd by
a TV 'maid' he released his own 'Sylvester-ized' diva version the following
year. The 'B-side' is also dancey but not in the classic Disco style.
The Streets Are Made For Dancing written by Phil & Mitch Margo,
is sort of funk tinged dance pop that almost foretells New Wave infused
Dance by a year or two and actually sounds like something The Jets or
Shalamar might have done some years later. Both songs are terrific and
clock in at around 6 minutes each. Also interesting to note, the record
was exquisitely produced by Phil & Mitch Margo who were two of the
original members of The Tokens and who continued as writers and producers
of great pop music for many, many years. Condition of vinyl before transfer
was VG++. Beautifully audio cleaned. $8.00 in a slim case includes shipping
USPS in continental USA. |
Where Disco Dared - The Good, The Bad &
