Alot
of the time Sun just wasn't thinking and took pictures of celebrities
he met without getting into the shot. This photo of Holly Woodlawn backstage
at the Palladium for a show they were in called Pagan Place is the only
one included on this site. Sun recalls having to scrounge around for a
mirror to get made up in and found a broken full length away from the
backstage lunacy. This sweet, unassuming queen came over and timidly asked
if she might share the mirror. Sun said, "Of course" not realizing
until the paint started going on who she was. Sun treasured the experience
of sharing a mirror with Holly. This photo is here as an homage to Holly,
her strength of spirit, her contribution to drag history and her ability
to simply put, survive. Her fascinating and hilarious book "Low Life
In High Heels" is a must read and was the inspiration for a song
of the same title that Sun wrote and hopes to record soon with Holly's
blessing.
