This song was written on January 3rd, 1999 and was probably when Sun was at one of his rock bottoms. Drugs were ceasing to have even a numbing effect let alone helping to elevate. But they were only a part of the problem. Disillusion with life was probably the greatest factor and here it was, a few days after New Year’s with 2000 just around the bend...and nothing much to look forward to. Only looking back, and at what? Among the souvenirs: pain? And what a numbing effect disillusion can have. Sun wanted to sing a song about  the pain of numbness...of being detached from the heart so he wrote “Feel”.

When Sun gave Dan the reference material for the album this was the only song that he had no idea of what he wanted it to sound like. There was no reference. It would have to create itself. Dan vibed out on the original sketch which was just a synth pad and vocal and came up with a drum part for Bill. Fortunately Dan had suggested moving “Move On” in front of “Feel” so the shakers were able to play through and give the song something for the players to vibe on. Dan played bass and let Mark do his thing with guitar and then added the organ parts.

After the position of “Move On “ was changed it gave Sun a whole new perspective on “Feel”. A 180 degree shift! At first he thought of singing it from a position of pain which was kind of non-sequitur, after all the song is about not feeling, which can be painful but... Well, anyway, now Sun thought of just giving a more straight ahead performance. When Sun sang it he visualized himself inside a block of ice which really seemed to work. This very detached vocal amidst a swirling very organic sounding surrounding. The back ground vocals that Dan came up with and sang serve as little ice picks trying to chip away at the ice in which Sun was frozen.
