Some of the symbolic lyrics that Sun writes he doesn’t like to interpret
because he feels that may restrict individual interpretations of them. That
said, Sun’s inspirations for this one, were a shifting perception of the concept
of time (brought about from reading books like Recovering The Soul and Enlightenment
Is A Secret) and saying good-bye.
Sun had little reference material for this one. Only two songs. Sun
thought he might want to have some Spanish or classical sounding guitar on it so
he referred to “Rain” by Jose Feliciano. Mark really liked the idea but Dan
sort of promptly nixed it! The other track was a David Crosby song called
“Laughing”. None of this was played for Mark who started doing some amazing
guitar playing as soon as Dan rolled the tape with just the drums, bass and a
pad & scratch vocal and lo and behold and correct me if I’m wrong but the
guitar sounds like something you might hear on an old David Crosby record.
Mission accomplished.
There’s very little to add here other than that Sun said he had a
wonderful time singing it.
